Spryfield - Colpitts Lake - Granite Plateau - Flat Lake | Under blue skies we walk from Spryfield to the north end of Colpitts Lake, where we enjoy the fall colours of the mixed forest. We walk along the western shore of the lake and up on to the granite plateau. On the plateau we walk along strips of granite flanked by jack pines and shrubs. We descend from the plateau and, glancing back through the deciduous woods at the edge of the plateau, we continue on boggy ground until we reach a strip of granite that leads us to the north end of Flat Lake. |

Granite Ridge between Colpitts Lake and Flat Lake - Purcell's Pond - Purcell's Cove | Next we climb on to the granite ridge that lies between Colpitt's Lake and Flat Lake. As we approach the crest of the ridge we have a view of Flat Lake through the trees. From the crest we have a view of Purcell's Pond and Halifax Harbour. Descending from the ridge, we make for the east end of Purcell's Pond, where the colours are very subdued because the sky has clouded over. We follow the stream that flows out of the east end of the lake to the sea. We arrive in Purcell's Cove, with its anchored boats and its view across Halifax Harbour to McNab's Island. |
