Spryfield - Granite Plateau - Colpitts Lake - Flat Lake | From Spryfield we walk to the McIntosh Run, cross it and go up on to the granite plateau. The temperature is close to freezing point, and the water in a pool is partly liquid, partly frozen and partly in a semi-congealed state. We cross the plateau to Colpitts Lake, which appears bleak as we look at the view from the south end. The leaves have fallen and the sky is grey. We continue to the north end of Flat Lake, which seems less bleak because the sky is clearing. |

McIntosh Run - Spryfield | We cross from Flat Lake to the McIntosh Run, which today presents a steely aspect. There has been a considerable amount of precipitation in recent days, and water is gushing frothily off the granite plateau in channels which are normally dry. We see grey foam in the water flowing from the plateau towards the McIntosh Run. As we walk back to Spryfield along the banks of The McIntosh Run, the red berries growing on the bushes along the banks stand out in the predominant grey of the late autumn landscape. |
